Open Eyes

I close my eyes
I close my eyes hoping not to feel,
But in the darkness my fears reveal
That although I run and try not to see,
What I fear most lies deep within me.
Faces I ran from, behind these lids appear,
Making my dreams fitful with fear.
Dark deeds buried return to plague me,
Secret mistakes now begging to be free.
Here is where I have no where to hide,
No one to lean on or turn to to confide.
Some things in life are inescapable I realise,
With that reality came strength and open eyes.
by Sade N. Jemmott

I wrote that probably a little more than a year ago and I just can’t help but think that the subtle truths in it ring truer with each passing day. I mean, think about it…how many times have you said, done or even thought something that you wish you never had? Ask yourself just how many fears or regrets you have stifled over the years. How many ghosts are you walking around with today? Try as you will, the harsh reality is that some things really are inescapable...some burdens you carry for life and as in the natural course of this thing we call life, decisions you make today will inevitably dictate your tomorrow…that’s life guys…like it or not…That is life.

But the trick to surviving it is to face those fears, give those regrets the boot…I mean think about it... if you are the same person at 25 that you were at 16 you are just pathetic! So since you are not that person you used to be, why allow his/her baggage to plague the new you? No one is perfect...and those little imperfections are what make you you. Embrace them…rather than let the unspeakable from past lives be road-blocks today, let them be stepping stones instead. Learn from them, build on them & above all pass on the knowledge to anyone who will have it. Without out trials we would never grow & without need we would never cherish…Trust me on this one. Try it for a month…stop fighting your insecurities…take them to Cheffete, get acquainted and soon you’ll see they really aren’t that bad.
